Ten Hag lauds Wan-Bissaka's impact
Erik ten Hag discussed the resurgence of Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in his exclusive Q&A with club media ahead of today's game against Leicester.
The Reds will face the Foxes in the Premier League at Old Trafford (kick-off 14:00 GMT), just days after returning from Barcelona, where we played out an enthralling 2-2 draw with the Catalans in the first leg of our Europa League play-off.
United are the only English club currently competing across four competitions, meaning depth across the pitch is key. As we enter the clash with Leicester, Ten Hag has two options at right-back; Diogo Dalot and Wan-Bissaka.
After missing much of the first part of the season through illnesses or injuries, Aaron returned after the World Cup break and has since put in some very impressive performances. Such is his form, the defender started our clash at the Nou Camp on Thursday and contributed at both ends of the pitch.
Speaking in his exclusive matchday Q&A with club media ahead of the match against Leicester, Erik was quick to praise Wan-Bissaka's progress.
Did this Wan-Bissaka tackle save a point?
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s heroic late challenge on Wilfried Zaha prevented an almost-certain Palace winner…
“Yes, of course," the Dutchman said when asked whether he was pleased with Aaron's recent performances.
“He is improving his game and I’m happy with his return. He had a difficult first part of the season but he fought himself back and that’s a credit to him.
“If you struggle, you fight yourself back; that’s what life is about, and especially top football.”
In particular, Ten Hag has been impressed with the impact the right-back has had going forward, with the 25-year-old now presenting a real threat to opposition defences down the United right.
“You always have to be on the front foot, you always have to be ready,” our manager added.
“As you say, he’s also now improving his game. [In his] defending I think he was always reliable, but offensively also now he has an impact.”
