Ten Hag explains Lindelof and Antony's absence

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an explanation for his side to face West Ham United at Old Trafford.

There are four changes to the XI that defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0 on Thursday night in the Europa League.

Victor Lindelof is out through illness, while Antony has picked up an injury, which has allowed Anthony Elanga to earn a recall to the team.

Fit-again Harry Maguire starts as captain, after making his comeback from injury as a half-time substitute against Sheriff, while fellow England internationals Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford are restored to the starting line-up.

Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho move to the bench, where there is also a place for Nathan Bishop as one of two keepers, alongside Martin Dubravka.

"Yeah," said Ten Hag on Sky Sports, when asked if Lindelof is ill. "Harry played 45 minutes so he had a good training week. Now, I think he's ready to play and he wanted already to start on Thursday but now he's ready.

"I think he [Cristiano Ronaldo] played a pretty good game on Thursday; attacking-wise, defending-wise as well. We know they are different opponents but he did well as well in the team and that's why we chose him.

"No, nothing [to do with Antony's showboating skill last time out against Sheriff]. He is injured - and I hope not too bad, I think not too bad and, in a couple of days, he will be back."

United: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire (c), Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Elanga, Fernandes, Rashford; Ronaldo.

Substitutes: Bishop, Dubravka, Malacia, Fred, McTominay, van de Beek, Garnacho, Pellistri, Sancho.
