Ten Hag explains United team to face Everton

Erik ten Hag has made three changes to his Manchester United starting line-up for this afternoon's Premier League game against Everton at Goodison Park.

In midfield, 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo will make his first Premier League start, replacing Christian Eriksen who picked up an injury in our last outing before the international break, against Luton Town.

Rasmus Hojlund has not made the trip to Goodison Park, as he also continues to nurse an injury sustained in that Old Trafford win just over a fortnight ago. In his absence, Anthony Martial will lead the line for United in the 16:30 GMT kick-off.

Antony and his fellow attacking player Mason Mount are also absent from the matchday squad due to recent knocks.

Erik discusses the "hostile" Goodison Park atmosphere and explains why Mainoo and Shaw start...

Ten Hag, who won't be in the technical area this afternoon due to a one-match suspension, explained the thinking behind his selection when speaking to Sky Sports at Goodison Park. Firstly, he addressed Mainoo's milestone day.

"Kobbie dropped out of the team in pre-season when he had a bad injury. But he worked hard to get back," the boss began.

"Now he's back and he's match fit, he's played some games in the last few weeks so he's prepared and he's ready."

Luke Shaw - who returned to training earlier this week - has been deemed fit enough to start by the boss, and he comes in at left-back for Sergio Reguilon, who is among the substitutes.

"We miss every player but Luke Shaw was [a] massive [miss]," added Ten Hag.

"We are very happy he is back because he will definitely contribute to our success. He brings his personality already. He's a confident player so he's taking the ball. His defending is very strong.

"He's also a player who can help others step up because of his presence."
