Ten Hag: Mount can play a big part for us

Erik ten Hag is pleased with the way Mason Mount has contributed to the side since his return from injury.

Our no.7 started United's first two fixtures of the season, against Wolves and Tottenham, but a setback meant the England international spent the next five matches on the sidelines.

Last week, in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace, Mount started on his return and looked as energetic as ever.

He also began recent defeats to the Eagles (in the Premier League) and Galatasaray but was a bright spark on otherwise disappointing days.

Ahead of our upcoming league clash with Brentford today (Saturday), Erik explained what Mount brings to his side.

Matchday Q&A | Erik ten Hag speaks about key partnerships, Mason Mount and the threat posed by Brentford...

"He can be a big part [of what we are creating here]," said the Dutchman.

"He can play in that game by supplying, making the connections, making the link-ups for those in the front line.

"He has abilities to give that [energy] and to supply our front players by combinations."

It isn't just in forward areas where the 24-year-old has impressed the boss, however.

"Also in his moments of defence transition, in defending and pressing he can be and he is already a great player for us because he puts a lot of effort in.

"When we get better connections [in the team], that will grow."
