Tyrell Malacia was unveiled as a new Manchester United player on Tuesday, making him the first signing of Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Our new no.12 joined the Reds after rising through the youth ranks and making an impact at Dutch side Feyenoord.

Malacia has crossed paths with his new manager many times over the years, with the defender having played against Ten Hag’s Ajax in the Eredivisie.

In an exclusive interview with club media, United's manager expressed his pleasure at having acquired the services of the Netherlands international, and explained how the 22-year-old will benefit his team.

The boss admits he has been pleased with the energy shown by his squad at Carrington.

“I think he’s the modern left-back or full-back," said the Reds manager. “He suits the profile [we were looking for] and most important from every full-back is that he closes the right area.”

Malacia gained a reputation in Europe as a dynamic defender who also contributes in attack as well as defence, with the Dutchman assisting five goals for Feyenoord last season.

Ten Hag is aware of Malacia’s threat, and believes he can be a real asset to the Reds.

“He can also take part in the offensive side of our game, and he can do that really well,” he said. “I think he will really contribute to the team.”

United begin Tour 2022 with a match against rivals Liverpool in Bangkok on Tuesday 12 July, as Ten Hag’s pre-season preparations gain momentum.

Malacia could feature in this clash, and United supporters will, no doubt, be eager to spot the new signing in action at the Rajamangala Stadium, which is being shown live on MUTV.
