Other members of the Academy have been taking part in first-team training all season and the manager has acknowledged there is a depth of talent within Carrington, potentially capable of making their mark at some point.

"You have to prove it and you have to prove it when the occasion is there," explained Ten Hag in the second part of his press conference to preview Sunday's Premier League game at Luton Town. "And, of course, you never know. But that is about the knowledge from the staff and if they think they can do it.

"You assess the potential of the player. We were convinced of those players and I think we still have, in the back of our squad, such young players who can also make those steps, like Kobbie and Garnacho, who have also made [those] in the last couple of months."

The manager has handed Premier League debuts to Dan Gore, Willy Kambwala and Omari Forson this term and shown his faith in youth.

The club's Under-21s are next in action against Manchester City, at Leigh Sports Village on Monday night, with free tickets available for the 19:00 GMT kick-off.
