Ten Hag issues update on Rashford injury

Sunday 07 April 2024 20:05

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was substituted through injury around an hour into Sunday's draw with Liverpool and manager Erik ten Hag has revealed how serious he believes the knock is.

Our no.10 returned to the starting line-up against the Merseysiders after appearing as a substitute in United's loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, and the England international started the game brightly down the left flank.

However, Rashford only managed just over 60 minutes in the fixture before pulling up with an injury and signalling to the bench that he needed to be withdrawn from the action, being replaced shortly afterwards by Antony.

He sat down in some discomfort, and the precise details of the injury are as yet unknown, but manager Ten Hag seem relaxed when addressing how long his forward may face on the sidelines.

Although he admits mistakes were made, Erik ten Hag wants to point out there was quality shown against Liverpool...

Speaking to MUTV about Rashford's injury, the Dutchman said: "I'm not sure, but I don't think it will be long term."

That initial positive outlook from the boss will provide relief, considering the fact that the club have been picking up fresh injuries at a worrying rate over the last week, particularly in the defensive unit.

United travel to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth in the Premier League next weekend and the following week will see Ten Hag's side face Coventry City at Wembley Stadium, where we're competing for our place in the Emirates FA Cup final.

These key fixtures will require Ten Hag to have as strong a squad as possible to pick from, and the news that Rashford's setback does not appear too severe will come as a boost to the attacking unit.

Further fitness updates are likely to be given by the boss in the coming days ahead of the Cherries encounter. News, as it's released, will be available to you across ManUtd.com and the United App.

Meanwhile, before the game, the club confirmed that midfielder Scott McTominay was missing from the matchday squad that faced Liverpool through injury.
