Ten Hag's bullish message to the squad

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has underlined his key message to our squad, by urging the players to “fight for your position” throughout the remainder of this season.

The Reds lifted the Carabao Cup on Sunday to end a six-year wait for silverware and, while confetti rained down at Wembley Stadium, Ten Hag had already shifted his focus to the next challenge.

United are competing for success in three more competitions and will return to action at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening with a challenging Emirates FA Cup fifth-round tie against West Ham.

As it stands, that fixture will be our first of six across March and the Erik is adamant that every member of his squad will have an important to role to play.

When asked in today’s press conference whether he’s celebrated Sunday’s trophy, Ten Hag gave a response that highlighted his relentless work ethic.

“No, nothing beyond. Get back to work,” he said.

The manager then praised his players’ reaction to the Wembley win and how they have also focused on the next match, with more trophies up for grabs this season.

Quizzed on his selection plans for Wednesday and if he might make changes, Ten Hag appeared to reject the idea of a ‘strongest team’ and emphasised those in the best form will play.

“Let's make myself clear, we didn't win with 11 players, we did win with a squad and I think the squad is already, the whole season, so important,” the manager told reporters.
“Every time players are coming in, if it's for the whole game, for minutes or a couple of games, I think also during games, we can change the dynamics.

“We do it with many more than 11 players, so I count on them and I know they will be ready because every time players play games, they take responsibility and it's about that.

“Take responsibility, but also you have to fight for your position.

“We have great months ahead of us, also great games, and I think everyone wants to play games. The players who form the best teams will play.”

Line-ups for United v West Ham will be announced at 18:45 GMT on Wednesday.
