Confirmed: Ten Hag's team to face Bournemouth

Saturday 13 April 2024 16:30

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has named an unchanged team for his side's Premier League game away to Bournemouth at 17:30 BST.

It means that the Reds will line up with the same starting XI that began last Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford had to be withdrawn during that contest with the Merseysiders, but the forward has been deemed fit to feature from the off at the Vitality Stadium.

Erik ten Hag is happy with United's spirit but says we need results, ahead of Bournemouth (A)...

Andre Onana will be behind a back four of Diogo Dalot, Willy Kambwala, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It remains to be seen which side of defence each full-back will begin the game on, but one thing we know is that centre-back Kambwala will make two successive Premier League starts for the first time in his young career.

Bruno Fernandes is set to skipper the XI from a midfield three that features his fellow goalscorer from last weekend, Kobbie Mainoo, and the man that got our winner at Bournemouth last season, Casemiro.

As mentioned above, Rashford starts and is expected to feature from the left side of our front three, flanked on the right by Alejandro Garnacho and spearheaded through the middle by Rasmus Hojlund.

The only change to the matchday squad that was named against Liverpool sees Academy forward and potential first-team debutant Ethan Wheatley replace Antony, who misses out through injury.

Wheatley is one of three young Reds among the subs that could make a senior bow for the club this evening, joining defenders Harry Amass and Habeeb Ogunneye on a youthful-looking bench.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Ten Hag was asked about the latest opportunities for Academy players in his squad, something that is of course a renowned staple of the culture at United.

"Not only on the bench, also in the team, that’s young players in," he said.

"Of course, it’s a sign [of the injuries in the squad], absolutely. But we have good young players, they can progress, but when you are in the first team you have to take the responsibility and you get judged by the performances.

"We will help them but we are very proud that players like Kobbie, Alejandro Garnacho and now you see Willy Kambwala do the job."
