Ten Hag: We won't rush Rasmus

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted he will not force Rasmus Hojlund into action quicker than anticipated, following the news our latest addition is working to overcome an injury setback.

The Denmark international was paraded around Old Trafford just last weekend, as the Reds went on to beat RC Lens 3-1 at Old Trafford, and has since completed some light training at Carrington.

With United's campaign set to get under way on Monday evening against Wolves, most fans now know Rasmus will have to wait for his maiden bow at the Theatre of Dreams, with fellow forward Anthony Martial now an added option to potentially start against the Midlanders in attack.

“No, we are not in a rush,“ said Erik on Friday, when quizzed on Rasmus's fitness.

“We know we are also without him, we have a strong team and the position is covered. We don't rush.

“It is about him being in the right level and then we have to integrate him in training and then we will bring him into the games.

“We take our time. It is not about winning in this moment, it is about winning in the long-term.”
With plenty of selection headaches for our curtain-raiser in M16, the Reds know Tyrell Malacia, Amad, Kobbie Mainoo and Tom Heaton will play no part.

But with options in attack causing quite the conundrum for the boss, Erik insists he has already started devising a plan regarding our other forwards.

Erik has a positive update on the Frenchman's availability, ahead of Monday's match with Wolves.

“I'm quite calm and composed in this situation because Rashy is very good as a striker,” added the boss. “We have seen it last Saturday.

“Anthony Martial is available as well. Jadon Sancho can play there as well, he did it in pre-season very well.

“The squad can deal with it as I already said this. There is a strategy behind it.”
