Ten Hag outlines plans for Mainoo

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has outlined how he sees midfielder Kobbie Mainoo fitting into the Reds' plans this season.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022/23, making three appearances for United across the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup.

Having penned a brand-new contract at the club back in February, the teenager has continued to catch the eye in pre-season, during both of our wins over Leeds United and Lyon.

Ten Hag was quizzed about the youngster's capabilities during his pre-Arsenal briefing earlier this evening, handing out praise for the commitment Kobbie shows week in, week out.

Erik discusses the transfer window, United's captaincy and more during his first media briefing of Tour 2023...

"We have to see in pre-season," said the boss, when asked about where he sees the youngster fitting this term. ''He gets his chance because he deserves it. Because he showed it in the Under-21s and in our training.

"He showed a high level and now he has to show it in games. So pre-season is perfect to test him.

"He is an option to get into the game squad and to get playtime. We will see but I am confident he can do it and we have to wait we have test if it is going to happen."

Hoping to further make his mark during Tour 2023 and in the rest of our games Stateside, Mainoo is just one of a few names who will be bidding to stake a claim in Erik's plans.

Omari Forson and Joe Hugill both found the net in our clash with Leeds United in Oslo just last week, while fellow youngster Dan Gore turned provider for Donny van de Beek's match-winning strike against Lyon on Wednesday.
