Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Eric Ramsay is a “really talented” coach, and says his new role as Wales assistant will only serve to improve the Reds going forward.

Ramsay was announced as an assistant coach with the Wales national team on Thursday, in a role which will also see him continue as part of Ten Hag’s first-team set-up.

Ahead of United’s away clash against Liverpool on Sunday, Erik conducted his usual Matchday Q&A with club media, and heaped praised on Ramsay after his new role was revealed.

United first-team coach Eric Ramsay will combine working for the club with his new role in international football.

“I think it is great,” began the Dutchman. “Eric is a really talented coach, and he is progressing a lot.

“He is ambitious and this will happen, and it will improve him and help him to get new experiences, but also it will improve Manchester United as he will bring experiences back in our coaching.”

Ramsay links up with the Wales national team with manager Rob Page eager to guide his nation to qualification for another major tournament – following their participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking earlier this week, Ramsay said: “Having grown up in Llanfyllin, I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Welsh set-up.

“There’s so much excitement around the national team and its recent success, it’s a great time to be joining.

“With the squad having gone through a slight transition, it feels like a new beginning. I’ve already had some good conversations with Rob and Alan Knill, so I think the ingredients are there for it to be an exciting time.”
