Ten Hag provides Amad update

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has provided an injury update after Amad was withdrawn in our narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Leandro Trossard's first-half strike proved pivotal as the Gunners climbed back to the top of the table.

Amad, making his first Reds start since May 2021, gave United attacking inventiveness and the Ivorian was a bright spark in forward areas, with the Old Trafford crowd responding well to his inclusion.

However, our no.16 had to be withdrawn after 70 minutes, with Antony replacing him. Amad was clutching his knee before he came off, and soon disappeared down the tunnel, having departed the pitch to a standing ovation.

The boss was quizzed on Amad's fitness by MUTV's Liam Bradford after our encounter with the Gunners.

Erik ten Hag finds some positives to take after our narrow defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford...

"Not yet," began the Dutchman, when asked if he had an update. "Obviously it's a knock.

"And of course, it's also... he didn't start at all. So it's his first start. He did well. He was very bright, very confident.

"I thought also there was a reason that, in the end, he was out of fitness and came off. We have to see tomorrow what it is."

The former Sunderland loanee won 100 per cent of his tackles and completed 100 per cent of his long passes too, proving a threat while dribbling too, in an impressive cameo.

With three vital games remaining in our campaign, against Newcastle and Brighton in the league, and Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup final, Erik added in his post-match press conference how impressed he was with the 21-year-old, on an otherwise tricky afternoon for the Reds.

Jonny Evans feels the chance United were waiting for against Arsenal never quite arrived...

"I think Amad deserved it [his start] and there is a still a lot of competition in that position," added the boss.

"So he was injured for a long time and he has built himself back. He deserved it and across the season with [Alejandro] Garnacho, with Antony, we have options and [Marcus] Rashford has also played there as well.

"But today I thought he deserved it and he played very good, he did what we expected him to do, he was brave, he was creative, defended very good and I was impressed with his performance."
