Ten Hag: The first 25 minutes was brilliant

Saturday 20 May 2023 18:41

Erik ten Hag is asking Manchester United fans to prepare for "a final" after his team reached the brink of Champions League qualification by beating Bournemouth 1-0 away on Saturday afternoon.

The fixture he refers to is our next one in the Premier League - against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Thursday night - when a draw would be enough to book our place in Europe's elite competition next term.

That's our game in hand over the only side who can pip us to a top-four place - Liverpool, who dropped two home points by drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa after trailing 1-0 at half-time.

Here are Ten Hag's key comments from his post-match interviews with MUTV and Sky Sports...

Ten Hag: I hope we can keep these levels

Erik ten Hag is impressed with the way his side performed at Bournemouth, and is looking for it to continue...

MISSION ALMOST ACCOMPLISHED

"We go from game to game and today we are happy I think. A great performance, a good team performance. The first 25 minutes was really good, it was a brilliant performance from our team. Building up, staying compact, the counter press... a lot of things were magnificent. I hope we can stay longer at such levels and that is what we have to work for."

CASEMIRO'S GOAL, ERIKSEN'S ASSIST

"It was great. I think the whole midfield played brilliantly this afternoon. We're coaching a lot of movement behind and now it's coming out of the third line. It's a great run from Casemiro and great touch from Christian Eriksen. And the finish is brilliant, of course it was."

MORE GOALS WERE ELUSIVE AGAIN

"That is, I think, a symbol from this season. We are not scoring so easily. Nevertheless, we have scored over 100 goals during the season. That's a lot. But also, we played a lot of games. What we have to improve to score more easily as that makes life easy, because now we have to fight until the end [of games]."

40TH WIN THIS SEASON

"A win is always good. Now we have three games to go, but we must focus on the first game and we need a [point] to be secure of the Champions League position."

DE GEA'S GOLDEN GLOVE

"Don't forget about the team, because we are defending with 11 and we are playing out of a good plan. But of course, in the end, we have a very good goalkeeper and he has saved a lot of great opportunities from the opposition. So he's done a really good job today once again."

"When you are already safe [from relegation] two games before the end of the season, then you have done a really good job because the Premier League is really tough, it's really strong. All the teams are very strong. So if you save yourself two games from the end, I think it's a big reward. Big credit to the manager, his coaching staff and the team."

CHANCE TO QUALIFY V CHELSEA

"It's a final on Thursday and I hope all the fans are ready for it because we want to to get that done on Thursday. We therefore need another good performance and that will not be easy. You have to be ready, you have to be on the front foot, you have to be at the highest energy levels. You need to focus. And then it's possible. We know that we are strong, especially at Old Trafford."
