Ten Hag enthuses about United's performance
Erik ten Hag felt Manchester United were "brilliant" in defeating Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford.
The north Londoners had only lost once in their previous 16 games, dating back to mid-April, but were second best from the outset, with the Reds thoroughly deserving the three points - and only Hugo Lloris keeping the score down.
Speaking to the official broadcasters, including Amazon Prime Video, and MUTV, the boss could not hide his delight with a superb team display...
Ten Hag: The team were enjoyable to watch
"It was the best performance from the team this season," says a happy Erik ten Hag after our win over Spurs...
HOW GOOD WERE THE REDS?
"Against a solid and magnificent Tottenham, we have played and performed very well. Today was a brilliant performance. We scored two goals and I think we should have scored three or four goals. I'm pleased with the team - it was the best team performance so far this season. You can see today that we are developing. We are getting better every time on the pitch. It was enjoyable to see this."
BRAVO BRUNO
"Bruno scored, eh? I know it will come with him. Sometimes, you have appearances where you don't score but, all of a sudden, you've found the back of the net. I think, for Bruno, it is important that he scored a goal but he played a magnificent game today."
THREE CLEAN SHEETS ON THE SPIN
"I'm happy. It's the same as Sunday [against Newcastle United] as we defended [just] as well and had a clean sheet. You see how proactive we play from good defensive organisation, very proactive in pressing and you saw the problems we cause for opponents. Also, on Sunday, we didn't concede chances from open play. This is a base to win games and get into positions where you want to be in the end."
THE BEST UNDER HIM SO FAR?
"I think so but it's not about me. It was the best performance of the team in the season. That is what you want. You want to see the progress in the team and that is what I've seen today but not only today. In many games, I've seen it. Sunday, we were all disappointed with Sunday's game, but we had a clean sheet, as we did today. So we see now when you want to get success, you have to defend proactively and do it with 11. It's what we are doing, acting as a team and it is always the base to get success in the season."
POSSESSION PLAY
"In possession, I think we were really good with switch of play, the full-backs did really well. They all did well. We kept the patience in the opposition half as that is what Spurs are aiming for, for us to lose balls so they can make a quick counter-attack. We almost didn't let that happen and that is a big compliment to the team. Just one moment, before half-time, we had to break their counter-attack, a really dangerous attack from them. When we do that, with good rest defence, patience on the ball, we create chances. You've seen that, before and after half-time, we created a lot of chances and didn't allow them too many counter-attack opportunities."
Match report: United 2 Tottenham 0
ArticleThe Reds put on a brilliant performance to overcome Spurs at a joyous Old Trafford.
EVER-READY FRED
"I said to him before the match: 'Are you ready?' and he said: 'I am always ready'. And he proved it. It was a magnificent performance from Fred, that's clear."
RONALDO GOING DOWN THE TUNNEL
"I was there, I have seen him, but I didn't speak with him. I don't pay attention today, we deal with that tomorrow. I want to focus on this team, it was a magnificent performance from all 11 players. I have to correct myself, it was a performance also from the subs who came on. A squad performance."
MESSAGE IN THE DRESSING ROOM
"I think this team has confidence. It's about getting ready for that Chelsea game. It's also what I just told in the dressing room to the lads. Get ready as a team, as a player, it's about recovery, about sleep, about food. Get ready for the next game and then, once again, we need that same performance. We have to deliver every day, live every day to the maximum. Live every day accounting to high standards. When you do this, you develop as a team and come on the good side of the process. I'm happy for today and already looking forward to Saturday, as it's another big match."
