Ten Hag reacts to win over Hatters

Erik ten Hag has provided his thoughts on Manchester United's 1-0 victory over Luton Town.

The boss felt the win should have been more convincing but he was happy with the character shown to resist any late comeback by the visitors, and another clean sheet for Andre Onana.

Victor Lindelof's 59th-minute strike proved decisive, despite a number of chances being squandered in both halves.

Ten Hag: The goals will come

Erik ten Hag gives his views on Lindelof’s goal, United’s chances and another managerial landmark…

WE HAD TO FIGHT

"Of course, we are pleased with the win. We could have made life easier if we had scored earlier on. We created a lot of chances but it takes a long time to score for the first time and we couldn’t get the second. It’s always difficult when you get to the end and the opponent smells it, and one ball in the box can change the result of the game. So we had to fight to the end and so compliment to the team."

IT WAS DESERVED

"I think, in two halves, we created seven or eight very good chances, which we didn’t net, or we did once. But, in the end, it was a fight and a battle, so don’t concede a goal. You know a team can always make, for one moment, one goal, even if it would not then not have been deserved by Luton. They worked hard but I think we controlled and dictated the game."

VICTOR'S STRIKE

"[The finish?] Very good. He played a very good, Lindelof, with his partner in the centre-half position, Harry Maguire. Also, Scott McTominay in front. It was important for Victor to play such a good game and to score a goal."

STRIKERS' GOALS WILL COME

"We created good chances and that’s very good and, in the week, [Rasmus] Hojlund has already scored five goals in the Champions League. I am sure he can also do it in the Premier League. Marcus [Rashford] knows he will always score. Now, in the moment, he doesn’t score but it will come, as long as we create chances, it will come. I’m convinced about it."

AFTER THE BREAK

"When we are back, we have three big away games [Everton, Galatasaray and Newcastle United] and we have to be ready for that. I think we are in a position that’s not too bad, even when we are not playing, since the start of the season, that well. Once we start playing well, and it will come, I think we’ll be in contention for the top four."
