Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to get things moving with new technical director Jason Wilcox.

Wilcox, a Premier League winner as a player, with Blackburn Rovers in 1995, left Southampton to take up the role at Old Trafford and has met with the boss, as plans are put in place for the future.

When asked at his press conference about how closely the pair will work together, plotting the next steps, Erik said: "Very close. We have to form a partnership, [it's] very important.

"We are a little bit behind in the process so we have to catch up and it will speed up the process."

Wilcox, who worked at Manchester City before moving to Southampton, was already well-known by Ten Hag, in advance of his appointment. However, the pair had a first meeting on Monday, following our Emirates FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City at the weekend.

"Yes, I met him yesterday for the first time," added the manager. "So we talked. This week, we will not have much time but, from Monday on, we will [move] quick forward. Of course I know his profile, I know he was at Man City in the youth [department] and had a lot of experience there.

"I know he was at Southampton so I am looking forward to our partnership."

In terms of Wilcox's role, United confirmed on his arrival that Jason "will work with all technical areas of the football department to achieve the highest standards of performance."

The Reds face Sheffield United in the Premier League on Wednesday night, before the second of back-to-back home games, with Burnley visiting Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
