Ten Hag reveals team news for cup cracker

Erik ten Hag has been quizzed on his plans for Manchester United's squad during a press conference at Carrington.

The Dutchman is preparing his troops for what promises to be a feisty Emirates FA Cup quarter-final battle against arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Merseysiders are still chasing success on three fronts, after already landing the Carabao Cup, during Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge.

United are out to end their interest in this competition, though, as we look to lift the trophy for the first time since 2015/16, the 12th occasion we managed to get our hands on the famous silverware.

The boss revealed Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Rasmus Hojlund have all trained on Friday, providing a timely boost.

Although their inclusion is not guaranteed on matchday, Ten Hag is hopeful of being able to call upon three valuable performers.

"We had a good week," he told journalists. "All the players you mentioned [Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Hojlund], they returned on the pitch. Partly in the start of the week and, today, we had a session that they were all training.

"I think [they're going to be available]. We have, tomorrow, one session. We have to see how they recover from this tomorrow. But it looks good."

Lisandro Martinez is ruled out, as he looks forward to heading to the United States with the Argentina squad to continue his recovery from a knee injury.

Back-up keeper Altay Bayindir is also unavailable, after picking up a muscle strain, but Tom Heaton is fit again.

Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial remain long-term absentees but Mason Mount is making progress, as he closes on a first appearance since November.

Young forward Omari Forson has been out injured too recently, and Jonny Evans has been nursing a minor issue.

"So, Tom Heaton is back as well," continued Ten Hag. "Also, what was very good was Mason Mount trained all week with us, the first part of the week also partly. But then, also he had some full sessions with us, so it's looking good."
