Erik: Harry and Scott have set the standard

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag believes the recent performances of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay should be the standard for his squad.

McTominay found the net twice in our 2-1 win over Chelsea in midweek, taking his tally for the season to six goals.

Harry himself has been equally as impressive in his defensive showings for the Reds, and was awarded the Premier League's Player of the Month award for November on Friday.

Speaking at Carrington ahead of Saturday's clash with Bournemouth, Ten Hag sees the commitment to the cause shown by the pair as something that should be replicated across the board.

“I think we have a squad and in that squad there is internal competition, and if you want to have a successful season, you need more than 11 players,” began the boss.

“In every season, it will turn [into] what is the best team. They were here, they are great players and they played themselves in[to] the team.

“So, that is what you expect from every player, this has to be the dedication from every player, to aim for this.”

Our no.39's goalscoring antics against the Blues have provided added confidence heading into tomorrow's meeting with Bournemouth, who have taken 13 points from their last six Premier League outings.

Finding the net for Scotland has also become something of a regular occurrence for Scott this year, and Erik has long known about the midfielder's knack for finding the back of the net.

“Actually, from the first moment, I saw he has a very good smell to making the box,” added Erik, echoing his post-match comments from Wednesday.

“He is a very good finisher. So, that's not a surprise.

“When we bring him in the way we want to play, in the position, when we get the balls there, yeah he will finish.”
