Ten Hag: We need competition in the squad
Manchester United need three Premier League standard goalkeepers and two competing players in every outfield position, says Erik ten Hag.
The boss was asked about potential transfers in his press conference following Saturday’s impressive 3-2 comeback win over Nottingham Forest, with less than a week to go until the window slams shut.
He maintained that any potential updates will be communicated to supporters in due course, and reiterated his desire to have a competitive squad.
Ten Hag's post-Forest press conference
Erik ten Hag speaks Raphael Varane, character and Bruno's quality, in his press conference after our win over Forest...
“If that is the case [players will depart the club], then we will bring you news,” he replied, when asked a question about goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
“We are prepared well; we are fully in control so if there are transfers, we need to keep the squad competitive because it will be a tough season with many games to cover.
“In many positions you need double and in the goalkeeping position we need three really good goalkeepers who can all keep the Premier League-standard so we will cover that.”
United have made three signings so far this summer, in the form of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.
Onana has started every match this season between the sticks for the Reds, while Mount was ruled out of the Nottingham Forest win, along with left-back Luke Shaw.
Our fans are yet to see Hojlund in a matchday squad for United, due to a knock he picked up while in pre-season training with former club Atalanta.
Erik offered a positive update on the striker last week, and could give further information on his progress this week.
