Ten Hag selects Cup final XI

The Reds are seeking revenge for the defeat by Pep Guardiola's men in last year's showpiece and four starters from that game feature from the off today - Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Varane, who is playing his final match for United, starts for the first time since early April after injury and partners Lisandro Martinez, with Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot on the flanks.

Casemiro, who has been deputising at centre-back, is not in the squad as Sofyan Amrabat retains his place in the team, next to Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.

United's other change comes out wide, as Marcus Rashford starts in place of Amad. Alejandro Garnacho, who made a big impact off the bench in last year's final, is on the other wing.

It looks as though Bruno Fernandes may operate as a false nine, as he has been doing in recent weeks, although Scott McTominay can also fulfil that role.

Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount have returned to the matchday squad as substitutes and, with the likes of Antony, Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund also available if needed, it is a strong-looking bench for Ten Hag, with plenty of attacking options.

Although he was initially named as a sub, Casemiro is not involved due to a late injury issue.

"Two years after each other we're in the final but this year we want to win," Ten Hag told the BBC.

"The mood is very good, strong spirit, strong belief, a tough opponent and we have to give everything we have, sacrifice, suffer but be brave and let them suffer as well.

"We have to be on the front foot and be aggressive. It's about mentality. If we have a strong belief and are brave then you have the opportunity. We had the opportunity last year but didn't take it.

"Casemiro is not 100% and in that space around Phil Foden we need a strong defence."
