Ten Hag sends message to Martinez

Erik ten Hag has passed on a message to Lisandro Martinez, after confirmation that the defender requires another spell on the sidelines.

The World Cup winner has aggravated the foot problem he suffered in April, which caused him to miss the end of last season.

Although he has made six appearances this term, the centre-back has been experiencing discomfort and is getting the issue resolved, which will rule him out of action for 'an extended period' of time.

Lisandro will be out of action for an extended period after aggravating a previous injury.

Licha missed the wins against Burnley and Crystal Palace, in the Carabao Cup, and is obviously out of our next meeting with the Eagles this weekend.

He will begin his road to recovery with the words of Ten Hag ringing in his ears, though, as the boss spoke to MUTV about what the South American means to the squad and how we will do everything to cope in his absence.

"That’s really sad, disappointing news," Erik told club reporter Mark Sullivan at Carrington. "He has to go through the same process and I’m really sorry for him.

"The squad will miss him. As you know, we have more injuries, so we always have to deal with it as a squad. As a club, we have to deal with injuries.

"He has to be strong," added the boss. "He will fight back, I’m sure. He is a character.

"There is still a long season ahead and he will be fit. We have to do our job, to get ourselves in the right position, so he can contribute, and add quality, when he returns."

United are also without full-backs Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia for Saturday's 15:00 BST kick-off with Palace, but there is cover in the centre-half position, with Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans all in contention to play.
