Ten Hag: I know my plan for Forest

Friday 14 April 2023 07:00

Following Thursday's Europa League quarter-final first leg, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag spoke about what his team selection could be for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest.

The Dutchman's side drew 2-2 with Sevilla at Old Trafford on Thursday night, leaving our tie with the Andalusians in the balance.

Towards the end of the first half, Raphael Varane looked to have picked up a knock, before playing on, and he was replaced at half-time by captain Harry Maguire. In the latter stages of the match, fellow centre-half Lisandro Martinez was carried off the pitch before being stretchered down the tunnel.

In his post-match press conference following the draw, Ten Hag said he is now turning his attention to the upcoming clash with Forest on Sunday, with injuries now certain to play a part in his team selection.

Erik speaks to the media following United's 2-2 draw with Sevilla in our Europa League first leg...

"I am not thinking about the next leg in Spain," he began. "Of course, the next game for me is Forest, and that is where I am looking at.

"I have an idea of what we will play on Sunday. But of course, we will see tomorrow when we talk to the medical [team]. See who came out of the game [ok] and then we have a plan and then we will bring a good team on the pitch.

"We are competing in three competitions and then you need the squad. And if Licha Martinez, Rapha Varane are not available Sunday, others have to do it. And we have seen on Saturday, Harry Maguire had a good game. And tonight, he came in and I think he played also a very good game."

Ten Hag is also awaiting a fitness update on Marcus Rashford, who came off against Everton on Saturday afternoon with a groin strain and was ruled out for the first leg against Sevilla earlier this week.

When asked whether United’s top goalscorer for 2022/23 would feature against Forest, Erik told journalists we could expect to see the England international very soon.

“There is a chance, but I cannot confirm it in this moment,” he said.

Ten Hag could give further updates on his squad when he conducts his pre-Forest press conference at 12:00 BST today (Friday).
