Erik ten Hag

Ten Hag's pre-Brentford team news update

Tuesday 04 April 2023 12:30

Erik ten Hag will be looking for a much-improved performance from his Manchester United side when we host Brentford on Wednesday evening (20:00 BST kick-off).

The Reds are targeting a first Premier League win since late February, but Thomas Frank's men have lost just one of their last 16 top-flight matches and are sure to pose a tough test.

There's good news following the weekend defeat to Newcastle, as Christian Eriksen is edging closer to a return.

The Dane has been out since late January due to an ankle injury sustained during the Emirates FA Cup win over Reading and, even if the meeting with his former side comes too soon for him to be involved, Ten Hag was pleased to confirm that he's now fit enough to resume group training.

“Not tomorrow,” Erik replied on Tuesday afternoon, when asked about the timeline on the midfielder’s comeback at his pre-match press conference.

“He is returning on the pitch, he is returning to team training today so we have to see how quick he can now make the progress.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be involved with the group at Carrington too, following the overnight illness that ruled him out on Tyneside.

Anthony Martial, of course, returned to the side as a 62nd-minute substitute at St James' Park and the Frenchman will be pushing for a first start since January's Manchester derby.

Casemiro still has two matches of his four-game domestic suspension to serve, following his red card against Southampton in March.

Alejandro Garnacho was injured during that draw with the Saints, and is still recovering, while Donny van de Beek is out for the season following knee surgery.

Tom Heaton joined the treatment room recently after picking up an ankle issue in training. He expects to be available again later this month.
