Team news for Everton v United

Friday 24 November 2023 13:44

Andre Onana trained on Friday and should be available to face Everton on Sunday, according to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

The Cameroon international goalkeeper was injured last week during the Indomitable Lions' 3-0 victory over Mauritius. He left the national squad and missed the subsequent 1-1 draw with Libya in the Africa World Cup qualifying section.

Onana is United's only ever-present this term, having started and completed all 18 matches so far, although the Reds do have Tom Heaton and summer signing Altay Bayindir in reserve.

Ten Hag confirmed that, after the latest session at Carrington, our no.24 is over the problem and ready to face the Toffees.

“Andre is okay. He stepped in during training today, so he is good,” Erik told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

There is further good news, as defender Luke Shaw is also fit enough to be part of the squad on Merseyside.

Shaw featured in our first two encounters this season, against Wolves and Tottenham, but the left-back has been missing for three months due to a muscle problem.

He has been working hard at our training base for the last fortnight and Ten Hag confirmed that he is available to play against Sean Dyche's side.

Rasmus Hojlund took part in the session but it is not yet clear whether he'll be fit, after he pulled out of Denmark's two international fixtures with a muscle strain.

“Rasmus is a close finish, he is training, he is down and outside,” Ten Hag added.

“He is making very good steps and we will have to wait until tomorrow to make a final decision.”

The key information ahead of our trip to Goodison Park this weekend.

Jonny Evans is still sidelined after being injured in our recent defeat to FC Copenhagen, although his return is not far away, while Mason Mount will be assessed prior to the meeting.

"Mason picked up an issue so we have to assess if he’s available for the game or not,” Ten Hag told club media on Friday.

Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez are all out of United's visit to L4.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

The Toffees will be extra motivated following last week's news that they have been deducted 10 points by the Premier League for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

Club captain Seamus Coleman is on the road to recovery after completing 90 minutes for Everton's Under-21s in midweek, his first full match since suffering a knee injury in May 2023. Ben Godfrey and former Red Michael Keane also received valuable game time in that clash, with Athletic Club of Spain.

Sunday's fixture comes too early for Dele Alli, who is yet to feature for the Merseysiders this season due to a groin issue.

Midfielder Andre Gomes is back on the grass after overcoming a calf problem, but Sean Dyche has ruled out Amadou Onana, who picked up a calf injury with Belgium.

“Dele needs time, he’s just feeling his way back in so it’d be really pleasing if he can get himself back fit,” Dyche said on Friday.

“Andre is back on the grass with us, he’s had a very frustrating season. He needs time, he needs games but he’s back around it.

“Ama’s calf I don’t think will be right. It’s still sore.”
