Ten Hag explains team selection against Everton

Sunday 09 October 2022 18:00

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has named his starting XI that will face Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League (KO 19:00 BST).

The manager has made three changes to his starting XI from the team that kicked off against Omonia Nicosia on Thursday evening, with Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford all coming into the side in place of Tyrell Malacia, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. Raphael Varane returns to the squad, on the bench.

On the inclusion of Martial from the off, the boss said: "We have planned his comeback carefully. He has scored three times in two games as a substitute and now he has to show it from the start."

He added that the combination of the Frenchman with Marcus Rashford can succeed again, as it did in Cyprus in midweek.

"We have to use the qualities of the players and we know they are suited, really good together, and this front four I think has a lot of dynamic, a lot of skills, a lot of creativity. Against a tough opponent, against a tough defence, they have to show it, they have to act."
