Ten Hag: You have to fight your way into the season
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists the Reds will have to fight their way into the season as we look to turn around our recent fortunes.
But regardless of the opponent and what is naturally riding on the fixture, the boss is expects to see a fighting spirit from his team come the 20:00 BST kick-off against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Part one: Erik's press conference v Liverpool
Ten Hag discusses rivalries, responding to adversity and preparing to face Liverpool...
“So, of course, you have to be ready, but also again you have to cut a point, you have to fight yourself into the season. But it is from game to game.
"I know, the rivals. We are the rivals, and we have to win every game but especially this game."
While the tactical elements of both sides’ respective game plans will no doubt have a bearing on Monday’s result, Erik first and foremost wants to see the right attitude from his side in order to breed confidence.
The Dutchman believes his side was bereft of spirit in our loss away to Brentford last weekend, and he is determined to ensure United fight tooth and nail for victory over our historic rivals.
"I think I make myself clear. I was definitely not happy and in football you can talk about football, you can talk about planning our philosophy, but the basic stuff has to be good, and that starts with the right attitude.
“So, you need a fighting spirit on the pitch, and I didn't see that from minute one.
“If you do that, then you get confidence."
