Christian Eriksen and Casemiro

Bruno and Eriksen hail Casemiro influence ahead of Sevilla game

Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes are delighted to have midfield partner Casemiro available for selection once again, as United prepare to enter a new, decisive phase in the 2022/23 season.

Barring any late fitness issues, the midfield catalyst should return to the starting XI in tonight's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla, having missed our last four matches due to a hefty domestic suspension.

Given the fresh injury concern over top scorer Marcus Rashford, it's a big boost for Erik ten Hag's Reds, and one that will undoubtedly benefit our other midfielders.

Eriksen himself has only just returned to action after a lengthy injury lay-off, but the Dane believes he and Casemiro, in partnership, can add something different to the team during the busy run-in.

Christian Eriksen displayed his creativity and vision during a long-awaited return from injury on Saturday...

“In football terms, we will probably bring a bit of calmness, a bit of movement of the ball on the pitch and a bit of awareness in the middle,” Eriksen told UTD Podcast

“I think we add a bit of control to the game. He’s a lovely guy, and, at the same time, he’s a winner, and he’s a lovely player.

“And he's bringing a lot more trophies than me – that's one [thing]!”
Bruno Fernandes was voted Man of the Match after Sunday's win over Everton – a game in which the Portuguese deputised superbly in a deeper midfield role.

But the return of Casemiro (and Eriksen) is likely to mean he can return to his more typical position, higher up the pitch.

For Fernandes, the main positive from the pair's return is an increase in options and depth for Ten Hag, as we enter a critical 11-day period in which our Europa League, FA Cup and top-four hopes could be decided.

Marcus has posted a reassuring message to supporters following the confirmation of his absence.

“It is really good to have everybody back, finally, so there are more problems for the manager,” Bruno told us earlier this week.

“There are better solutions for the team. Everyone is ready with different qualities so that will help in different moments of the season now, getting into the end of the season with different games, different teams that you play against.

“We will need everyone available to end the season in the best way possible.”
