Williams: It's all a real blessing
Ethan Williams could not hide his delight after scoring for Manchester United in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth.
The Academy product marked his first tour with a smart finish in our second Premier League Summer Series game, to supply our final goal, ahead of the Cherries' late consolation.
After a successful loan spell with Cheltenham Town last term, the forward is making the most of his opportunities and found it difficult to put his feelings into words when speaking afterwards to MUTV's Harry Robinson at Soldier Field.
Williams: Scoring for United is mad!
This interview is so pure! Ethan Williams is beyond buzzing to have scored his first senior goal for United...
"It's mad, I can't believe it," he admitted. "It still hasn't really sunk in, to be honest.
"It's a a dream come true and I'm so happy right now. I'm thinking about all the moments, all the hard work I've been through. You know, I feel so blessed and so happy to be given this opportunity. To score, it's mad. I can't even explain how I am feeling, to be honest."
The 19-year-old local lad was thrilled just to make the travelling squad.
"It was last minute," he revealed. "I was kind of told I wasn't [going] and then I was. I remember just... not really jumping around the bedroom, but I was buzzing. I've been trying to train well as these guys are the best players I've ever trained with, know what I mean? To be around it and be learning every single day is a real blessing and I'm just thankful for it all."
The senior players have helped to make Williams and all of the younger players feel welcome, as he continues to keep striving for improvement.
"Everyone has been so welcoming and so nice," he added. "It's a great group who are really good with the young lads, me and the five or six others coming on our first tour. I can't name anyone specifically so I would probably say everyone [has been helpful]. Everyone has been proper nice to me anyway.
"I already messaged my dad. He put in so much hard work, he's sacrificed everything for me and my little brother to do this. I was straight on the phone, messaging him, [saying] I can't believe I just scored. He was like: 'I told you.' Because we were kind of manifesting it for some time now. For me to finally take this experience, and actually go ahead with it and score, it's a crazy feeling."
