Exclusive: Harry's words for "amazing" fans

Harry Maguire says he and his Manchester United team-mates are determined to repay our "amazing" fans following their unwavering support during a difficult last few matches.

Our skipper sat down with us ahead of the Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and spoke of the incredible backing the Reds have received from the United faithful.

After a week of hard work on the training pitch, the squad now head to London determined to get back to winning ways in the league and to put smiles back on the faces of our supporters...

You did media after the match last Sunday and would have heard our fans still singing at the end despite the result, so how does that make you and your team-mates feel?
"We have amazing fans, the support that they give us in the stadium, home and away, win, lose or draw is amazing. They sing, they’re the loudest fans and they show their support and their appreciation. On the other hand it makes me feel disappointed because we let them down. As players we let the management down, we let the staff down and we let the club down, but most importantly we let the fans down. We know we’ve got to improve and I can assure you we’re doing everything we can and giving everything day in, day out to make sure that we improve on these performances, and I’m sure we’ll come through this difficult period and kick on again."

How to follow Tottenham v United

Here's the essential info on Saturday's kick-off time, TV coverage, match officials and this weekend's other fixtures.

You’ve had a full week to prepare for the trip to Spurs so what’s been happening at Carrington this week?
"It’s been a tough week obviously, you can’t just brush these things aside, especially when you lose to your rivals. To lose in the manner that we did was so disappointing. We’ve obviously had big discussions, we’ve analysed the game and the goals and looked at how we can do better and improve. That’s the most important thing now, we need to come together as a group and a club. We know our fans will be with us and come Saturday at Tottenham, like I said, they will be there in their numbers and I’m sure they’ll be singing and chanting and be right with us and getting behind us. We know as a group of players we need to make sure we’re together and we’re positive. It’s a tough one to move on from but we need to move on. There are lots of games to play in the Premier League, we’re in a strong position in the group in the Champions League and we’re still early on in the season. And it’s a season in which we know we can still achieve things."

There has always been a great dressing room here – how important has it been to have that dialogue together and keep that dressing room collective strong?
"We have a lot of experience in our dressing room and a lot of leaders. We’re open, we’re men and we can take someone pointing the finger at us, but one thing is for sure and that’s that we all know we’re in this together, there’s no blame game. Everyone has to look at themselves individually and look at where they can improve and help the team, that’s what I’ve been doing and I’m sure that’s what every player has been doing in the dressing room. That’s the only way forward, we stick together, we move on and we improve."

Spurs away is always a tricky game but we produced a fantastic result there last season – what are your memories of that game, which was quite a fiery one…
"Yeah it was quite an entertaining game and a great game to be involved in and it was an important result for us. It really kicked us on again in the season and we’ve had some good games over there in recent years. We know it will be a tough game, they’re a top team, but like I say we’ve got to focus on ourselves and this is what this week has been about. We’re not really focusing on the opposition, it’s all about ourselves and how to improve and get a performance on Saturday to put smiles back our fans’ faces as that’s what they deserve."

Finally, it’s an important match for both teams with one point separating you in the table, and it’s always a good game isn't it...
"Yeah of course it’s an important game, it’s a football match in the Premier League playing for Manchester United. It’s not really about looking at the table and seeing where they are in the table, it’s all about going there and getting three points and that’s what this club is all about. Every game you play in you’re expected to get three points. But first and foremost we owe ourselves a good performance. We’re together as a unit and we’re together as a team, and we want to give the fans a performance to be proud of and the result will look after itself."
