United in the hat for FA Cup fourth-round draw
The draw for the next stage of this season’s Emirates FA Cup will take place in the build-up to Manchester United’s third-round match away to Wigan Athletic on Monday evening.
That is around 25 minutes before kick-off (20:15 GMT), which means Erik ten Hag’s side and our League One opponents will know who awaits in the fourth round for the victors, prior to the first whistle.
Match preview: Wigan v United
ArticleThe Reds travel to the nearby DW Stadium for the first time in over a decade, for this FA Cup third-round tie.
We will share ball no.20 with the Latics and be assigned a preliminary spot in one of the next stage’s 16 matches, to be played across the weekend of 27/28 January.
Ten Hag’s team are one of 18 Premier League sides that will feature in the draw, with Arsenal and Burnley the only top-flight outfits to be eliminated so far.
The Gunners were defeated 2-0 at home to Liverpool in one of the third round’s standout results on Sunday, while holders Manchester City were among those who progressed earlier in the day, starting their defence of the trophy with a 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.
Crystal Palace's 0-0 stalemate with Everton on Thursday was the first of the long weekend's eight matches to finish without a winner, with those ties to be settled by replays later this month.
Monday evening’s draw will also include 21 Football League clubs, as well as non-league outfits Eastleigh (fifth tier) and Maidstone United (sixth tier).
The latter, managed by former Wolves defender George Elokobi, are the lowest ranked side left in the competition and advanced to the last 32 for the first time since their reformation in 1992 on Saturday, following a 1-0 triumph over League One side Stevenage.
