Pellistri: We have to keep working

Wednesday 13 July 2022 07:00

Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri has insisted both himself and his team-mates must keep up the hard work following our 4-0 victory over Liverpool in Bangkok.

It was the perfect start to Tour 2022 under new boss Erik ten Hag, as the Reds scored three times in the first half, before 20-year-old Pellistri rounded off the scoring late on at the Rajamangala Stadium.

Having spent the previous campaign building up valuable first-team experience on loan with La Liga side Deportivo Alaves, the Uruguay international reunited with his Reds team-mates last week for pre-season, before playing his part in our summer opener on Tuesday.

Watch as Facundo Pellistri explains how it felt to score on his return to United action from loan...

"It was a very good start, amazing, and against a really hard team," began the United winger. "I think we did good and I'm really happy to score a goal for the team and that we win, [it] makes such a difference.

"It is good to start like this [with a win]. We have a long and hard pre-season coming and we have to keep working. Obviously it is always good to win and we are working on that. In every match we have to try to win."

Substituted in at the beginning of the second half as one of Ten Hag's 10 half-time changes, Pellistri was given an opportunity to showcase his qualities.

Following Eric Bailly's superb run from his own half, the youngster was handed a golden chance to add the Reds' fourth of the afternoon, as Amad played the ball across for the former Penarol player to roll home past Adrian.

"It was amazing," he began. "We have very good players, so it is easy to play with them. I am really happy to share the locker room [with them] because they have lots of experience and they help me a lot.

United will now travel to Australia, as preparations for the 22/23 campaign continue with a game against Melbourne Victory, which you can watch live only on MUTV

Pellistri is excited to see the support 'Down Under' off the back of an incredible backing in Thailand.

Pellistri is congratulated by fellow team-mates Anthony Elanga and Amad following his goal against Liverpool.

"Again it was amazing. All the fans were here so it was unbelievable. I am really happy for that," the 20-year-old added.

"I am excited to go [to Australia] and be there and see all the fans, all of the United fans that are everywhere."
