Pellistri continues to impress with the Academy

Wednesday 09 December 2020 11:38

Facundo Pellestri registered his third goal involvement for Manchester United's Academy on Tuesday, as our Under-21s faced Accrington Stanley’s first team in the Papa John’s Trophy.

The Uruguayan youngster joined the club on transfer deadline-day and has been training with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad, while also appearing in competitive games for our younger sides in an effort to acclimatise.

Pellistri caught the eye with a lively Academy debut against Everton in October and claimed his first assist in another Premier League 2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in November, with an excellent cross for Shola Shoretire.

Facundo’s first goal arrived last Friday night in a spirited victory over Southampton and he followed that up with another fine finish on Tuesday, when facing Accrington Stanley’s senior professionals.

Facundo Pellistri beat three Accrington Stanley players to score his second Academy goal on Tuesday night...

As you can see in the video above, the 18-year-old beat three opposition players – two defenders and the goalkeeper – before slotting the ball in with a cool finish.

Earlier this week, Pellistri told us he is enjoying his football at United as he continues to adjust to life in Manchester, following that transfer from boyhood club Penarol in the summer.

“I'm settling in much better,” he said. “I am enjoying my time here in Manchester, in this club - with the Under-23s and with the first team.

“My team-mates are very kind with me and this is a very important reason why I am feeling much better with my performances and life here.”

Pellistri could be involved again on Sunday when our Under-23s take on Manchester City at Leigh Sports Village, where kick-off is scheduled for 13:00 GMT.

The match will be broadcast live on MUTV.
