Ladd excited to sign for United Women

New Manchester United Women signing Hayley Ladd cannot wait to get started as the Reds embark on the club's debut campaign in the Barclays Women's Super League.

Casey Stoney's squad open the campaign with a derby against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 17 September (kick-off 15:00 BST), after storming to the Women's Championship title last season.

Speaking to club media for the first time, the midfielder revealed who is helping her settle in, explained what she's looking forward to the most, and outlined the challenges that lie in store ahead of the new season.

"It’s exciting to be here," Hayley said. "Having just started pre-season, it’s exciting to get to know the girls and really get a feel for the club. This is definitely a hungry group of players and a great group of girls as well, so I am really looking forward to getting going."

One player who has helped Hayley settle into the club is Millie Turner. The pair have been reunited after spending time at Bristol City together, and the Wales international admitted that Turner helped sell the idea of moving to Manchester in the summer.

"Millie was a big part in me joining," Ladd said. "As soon as I heard about the club I texted her, and she couldn’t say more positive things about it. And she’s definitely been showing me the ropes since I have been here and helping me introduce myself to everyone."

With spells at Arsenal, Bristol City and most recently at Birmingham City on her CV, Hayley is all too aware of the challenges that lie in store next season as the Reds make the step up to the WSL after winning promotion and lifting the Women's Championship trophy.

"From my experience in the Super League, I know how competitive it is and each year teams are growing and getting better and better," the midfielder added. "So, it’s going to be a tough challenge, but I definitely think we can be competitive."

Hayley Ladd is the latest addition to Casey Stoney's squad, which will compete in the WSL for the first time.

Originally starting out in defence, Ladd has gradually moved into midfield, but admits that she is happy to play anywhere to help the team.

"I’ll probably be playing more in midfield," she said, "but I would say I am a versatile player, so I can play in a number of positions and I’m happy to play wherever the team needs me to play.

“I think I’m quite a tenacious and competitive player, so I’ll always give my all and go for the win.”
