Things we learnt from Ole's Little Devils interview
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took part in one of his most enjoyable interviews recently when he chatted to young reporters Zac and Charlie - and disclosed some brilliant stories and revelations many fans may not have heard before.
If you've not yet watched their conversation in the latest episode of 'Little Devils', you can still catch up by watching the full video below. In the meantime, we've rounded up five of the stand-out stories from Ole's chat with our talented young hosts...
1. Play or Party with Keano, Ronaldinho and Denis Law?
What did you think Ole said when quizzed by Zac and Charlie about this famous trio? Well, the manager chose to play with his former skipper and good friend Roy Keane. "He was my captain when I played and he was such a leader and a winner, and I loved playing football with him. He never allowed me to rest, so definitely play football with him." Asked about Ronaldinho, Ole said: "I have played with him and it was a joy, the only thing was he didn't do a lot of defending so I had to run wherever he was meant to be defending! So maybe I'll go to a party with him." As for a fellow legendary striker, Denis Law, Ole joked: "Denis is a bit older than me, but I would have loved to have played football with him because from the clips I've seen he was a top, top player. I've met him a few times and he's great fun, so maybe I could do both with him - play and party with Denis!"
For someone who has done countless interviews, both as a player and a manager, it's hard to find a question Ole hasn't answered before or something he's not revealed, but when Zac and Charlie asked the boss to tell them something he's never told anyone about his career before, he made a revelation from his school days. Ole joked about how when he was meant to be concentrating in class and listening to his teachers, he was actually sat at his desk sketching out the goals he had been scoring for his local team in Norway, Clausenengen. As keen footballers and creators of football artwork themselves (as witnessed in 'Little Devils'' famous Picture Round), Zac and Charlie loved this little exclusive from the manager!
Throughout Season One of 'Little Devils', Zac and Charlie have been challenging their interviewees to take part in their brilliant game called 'In A Rush' in which players have to find four objects, chosen by the boys, in their houses or at the training ground. Ole's episode features the final leaderboard so stop reading now if you'd prefer to discover the results by watching the video. Ole was superbly assisted by one of his long-standing staff members, kitman Ian Buckingham aka "Bucks" - and he put in a brilliant effort to finish fourth on 62 seconds. Bryan Robson and Denis Irwin took up the bronze and silver positions respectively, while the gold medal and top spot went to Dwight Yorke, who grabbed a frying pan, shower gel, a pillow and a piece of fruit from around his house in an incredible 32 seconds!
We asked two previous 'Little Devils' interviewees, Lee Grant and Juan Mata, to give Zac and Charlie their own questions to ask the boss. Lee wanted to know just exactly how Ole celebrated after the Champions League final on that famous night at the Nou Camp when United clinched the Treble, back in May '99, thanks to our manager's memorable injury-time strike. "We had a very, very good party!" revealed the boss. "That was one of the parties I've enjoyed the most and we didn't go to bed until 8 o'clock in the morning. The game was really late so we didn't get back to the hotel until 2 in the morning and then we had a really great party."
5. What is Ole's favourite way to strike the ball?
That was the question Juan sent to Zac and Charlie for their interview with Ole. The boss has, of course, scored numerous types of different goals with both feet, but during his interview with the boys he got up to demonstrate his favourite kind of finish. "I like to hit the ball with my laces, but the outside of my laces so it bends round the keeper and back into the goal. Roberto Carlos scored the best free-kick ever like that against France and that technique is my favourite."
And finally... another memorable question from Ole's 'Little Devils' interview was one that always brings an interesting answer: who would the manager choose as his preferred three dinner guests? Scroll to 2 minutes 45 seconds into the video directly above to find out who Ole picked!
