Bruno Fernandes and Fred managed something only two Reds have previously achieved in the Premier League by scoring in both home-and-away fixtures against Leeds United.

The midfield duo followed in the footsteps of Eric Cantona and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when adding to their goals on the opening day of the season by netting against the Yorkshiremen again at Elland Road.

Before the new division started in 1992, such instances of United men scoring in both games was also rare with only three other men pulling it off since the Second World War.

David Herd managed it in the 1965/66 season, scoring both our goals in successive 1-1 draws with our rivals across the Pennines. Bobby Charlton was the previous Red to do it, in 1959/60, and this was the second time the Busby Babe achieved the feat after also netting home and away in the 1956/57 campaign. The following season, Dennis Viollet registered in a 5-0 win at Old Trafford, before also notching in a 1-1 draw in Yorkshire - the final Roses clash before the Munich Air Disaster.

It was, of course, entirely fitting that Cantona would be on the scoresheet against the club he left to head to Old Trafford. In a memorable 4-0 victory in West Yorkshire in September 1996, he struck the final goal before celebrating in front of the home fans. This was one of only two games when he missed a penalty but he made amends and it proved to be the last match in charge for Howard Wilkinson, the man who led Leeds to the last Division One title.

Towards the end of the year, King Eric made no mistake from the spot at the Theatre of Dreams and the ninth-minute penalty proved to be the winner.

Former manager Solskjaer also proved Leeds' nemesis in the 2001/02 season, with the Norwegian displaying his predatory instincts in the two Roses matches.

An 89th-minute equaliser prevented the visitors from winning in the league at Old Trafford for the first time since 1981, following Mark Viduka's 77th-minute strike.

Australian striker Viduka scored again in the return fixture at Elland Road, indeed he netted in four out of five contests between the clubs during this period, but United won a seven-goal thriller as Solskjaer scored two of the goals, inside a couple of first-half minutes.
