Manchester United’s Fred and Anthony Elanga can’t wait to welcome Christian Eriksen into the dressing room, following the Dane’s move to Old Trafford as a free agent.

Eriksen, who signed for United last Friday, won’t join up with the rest of the team during Tour 2022 but will hopefully have significant time on the training ground with everyone before the season proper starts in August.

Fred played in midfield against Eriksen during United’s 3-0 win over Brentford in May and he believes we’ve added a top talent to the squad.

Eriksen and United: The story so far

Our new midfielder has crossed paths with only one other club more in his career.

“Great player! We all know of his quality,” said Fred. “He was at Tottenham, last season at Brentford, he's someone we know.

“He's got the ability, a great player, attacking, strikes the ball well, knows where the goal is. He'll add to the team and he'll be made very welcome in our team, at Manchester United. Together we can achieve our goals.

“He's a very experienced player, I'm sure he'll contribute a lot,” Fred continued.

“He seems like a great person and will add to our group. I'm fully behind him and hope that it all works out in our team. As I said we want to achieve our goals together and he can add a lot to our team.”

Eriksen will become the third Scandinavian player in the first-team squad, alongside Swedes Elanga and Victor Lindelof, and Anthony is delighted about that.

Only 15 players have more assists than the 30-year-old in Premier League history and Anthony will no doubt benefit from Eriksen’s creativity and eye for a penetrative pass.

“Another Scandinavian in the team is special,” added Elanga. “That makes three of us now in the team and it’ll be nice to meet him and play with him.

Erik ten Hag is delighted to have signed the Dane, who he feels is 'the right player' for United's needs.

“He’s a special player, a really good player and I’ve played against him. I had the honour to play against him last season and you could see his qualities from there,” said Elanga.

“I feel like he’ll be a great contributor to the team.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with him and hopefully he’ll put some balls in behind for me to run on to. That will be nice!”
