Fred has high hopes for Brazil

Fred is happy to be reunited with his Brazil colleagues ahead of their final warm-up games before the winter World Cup.

The Selecao are the favourites to lift the trophy in Qatar and the Manchester United midfielder sees no reason why they cannot go all the way in the tournament.

First, though, are two friendlies in France - against Ghana tonight (Friday) and Hannibal's Tunisia next Tuesday.

There is an opportunity to impress, alongside Antony and Casemiro, but also Alex Telles, who is on loan at Sevilla and has been named in coach Tite's international squad.

"We've got two games with the Brazilian Selecao," Fred told us. "Alex and I will be reunited. He's a great friend. I miss him and I hope he's happy in Seville. It's always good to catch up with friends with the national team, representing your country. I hope we do well."

When it was suggested to the midfielder that a number of United fans may be particularly keen on Brazil to do well, considering their connection with the current Reds squad, Fred revealed his confidence that the five-time winners can come out on top once again in 2022.

"I hope Brazil are champions," he said. "And they'll get behind us. I know they'll be supporting England but we're very good, highly focused and it's going to be a great tournament.

"At the World Cup, I hope Brazil do very well and, with all due respect to England, I hope we win it."

Most football followers have a special place in the heart for Brazil, following their flair and style shown in a number of World Cups over the years, and the support from back home will help fuel the team in Qatar.

"All Brazilians love the World Cup and our national team," Fred added. "Everyone is happy and throws parties when we play.

"I'm sure people are supporting us. The people in Brazil, our families, will be behind us to have a great tournament."
