Fred voted January Player of the Month by fans
Fred has been voted by Manchester United fans as our Player of the Month for January 2020, after beating three team-mates to the award.
Williams was runner-up in the vote with 23 per cent, while Maguire received 14 per cent and Matic 11 per cent.
"I’m very pleased with Fred. He's a top, top performer. All the supporters can see now why we believe in him. He covers every blade of grass on the pitch and wins challenges."
Fred played all nine matches across January, starting seven of those, and has established himself as an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side during the course of the season so far.
He also registered his 50th United appearance during the first month of 2020, in the 4-0 victory over Norwich City at Old Trafford.
And how about this stat? Impressively, the 26-year-old has not missed a minute of Premier League football since the end of September.
With Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay missing for the entirety of January, it was always going to be pivotal that Fred stepped up this month.
That he certainly did, and the centre-midfielder has demonstrated his improvement in the offensive areas over recent weeks.
Always renowned for his defensive discipline and positional sense, Fred’s ability to drive forward and create chances is becoming an ever-more rewarding avenue which the Reds are benefiting from.
Never was this more evident than during the 4-0 victory over Norwich City on 11 January, when Fred invigorated the midfield with his slick, forward-thinking passing and relentless energy.
The former Shakhtar man also took centre stage during our disappointing defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, where he was arguably United’s most creative outlet against the historic rivals.
He also covered more distance than any other player on the pitch in Merseyside, registering 11.67 km, with influential home captain Jordan Henderson a close second on 11.49 km.
The Brazilian ended the month by putting in a superb cross which ultimately set up Nemanja Matic’s goal against Manchester City, and almost single-handedly held down the midfield near the end of the semi-final contest, following his Serbian team-mate's dismissal.
