Fred: I'm proud to be part of this United team

The improvements made by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United this season have been clear to see and one could argue no player embodies that development more than Fred.

The Brazilian endured a difficult debut campaign at Old Trafford and he was honest about that during the summer of 2019. But that did not affect his determination to become a success and he worked closely with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff at the Aon Training Complex.

After initially starting the season on the bench, Fred grabbed his opportunity in September when injuries struck his team-mates and he quickly became a fixture in central midfield, providing some much-needed consistency and winning the admiration of fans with his hard-working performances.

Having now finished the term with 48 appearances in all competitions, the ball-winner is a major positive from 2019/20 and he is determined to build on that momentum going forward.

Fred’s final outing of the season was against Sevilla in Sunday’s frustrating UEFA Europa League semi-final defeat in Germany. The 27-year-old started the game alongside Paul Pogba in central midfield and earned praise for his performance as the Reds attempted to reach Friday’s final.

Unfortunately, despite dominating the game and registering 20 shots at goal, Ole’s Reds suffered a cruel 2-1 defeat and minds are now switching towards the new 2020/21 campaign.

As Fred has written in an Instagram post to his 1.5million followers, he feels heads can be held high following another eventful season.

“Yesterday was a tough and painful night, but I’m sure we fought until the last minute and I am proud to be part of this team,” writes Fred, alongside a picture of a group huddle.

“Another season that ends, I want to thank God and everyone who supported us. Now it’s time to get some rest and get ready for the next season. UNITED!”

In case you didn't already know, the 2020/21 Premier League season will start around the weekend of 12/13 September.

The fixtures for the campaign will be released on Friday.
