Fred working meticulously on his game

Fred has provided some great insight into what he is working on after training during an exclusive interview with Inside United, the official club magazine.

The Brazil international returned to the side for the Champions League opener against Young Boys and was one of our best performers in the unfortunate 2-1 defeat.

Showing the energy and determination that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appreciates, the South American recognises there is one facet of his role that he needs to perfect and many hours are going into this, including visualising what is going to happen in terms of his positioning.

"I aim to improve and work a lot after training on my passing," he told Inside United. "Sometimes turning in the midfield, things more specific to my position.

“As I've said before, my objective is to get the ball to the forwards, to always be ready to receive the ball from the centre-backs, receive a pass and have the right body position to control it and find a good pass.

“I aim to improve in this area, this is the most important area to improve and develop in my position. I visualise this every day so I look to improve on positioning on the pitch, an additional pass, turns during a game, that's what I look to work on every day."

At the age of 28, Fred is probably approaching his peak having gathered the required experience to deal with the rigours of the Premier League.

Although unable to earn more caps during the most recent international break, he has become a regular with Brazil, which is no mean feat considering the wealth of options available to the Selecao, and is a vital cog in Ole's United machine.

When asked if these can be his peak years, he said: "I believe so, as you're at a really good age. It's an age when you've already experienced a great deal since turning professional, I've been through good and bad things.

“Also you're playing at a massive club like United, the biggest in the world for me. I think it is the peak of my career, It's a marvellous time for me, my best moment.

“I want to continue doing great work here. As I've already said, this is the season for us to win trophies. At my age, at this stage of my career, I aim to do my best, improve every day and I'm sure that this is going to be a blessed season for us."
