Rolfo and United a ‘perfect match’
New signing Fridolina Rolfo has described herself and Manchester United as a “perfect match” after she completed her transfer to Marc Skinner’s side last week.
The highly experienced Sweden international put pen to paper on a two-year deal with United Women after leaving Barcelona earlier this summer and has been speaking about the move in her exclusive first interview as a Red, which you can now watch in full below.
During the conversation at Carrington, Rolfo explains how she reacted upon learning of our interest in her signature, and why she feels this is the right place for the next chapter of her incredibly successful career to date – one that has included winning a multitude of titles in Germany, Spain and Sweden, on top of two Champions Leagues and various international medals.
Signing interview: Fridolina Rolfo
New United Women signing Fridolina Rolfo tells us about her ambitions and interests away from football…
“It’s a big club, it’s a badge you want to play for but also now last season when United did very good performance and reaching Champions League and being one of the best teams in the league, it’s something I want to be a part of and I feel I can bring my skills to this team and help the team.
“So, I feel like it’s a perfect match.”
Fridolina and the club both see it as an ideal fit, but where on the pitch does our new no.12 expect to showcase her skills for Skinner’s side?
It’s a question that was put to her during the signing interview – as a player that arrived at former club Barca as one of the best wingers in the world but went on to play most of her football for the Catalans at left-back – and her answer was a strong insight into her initial conversations with the boss.
“We had discussions about it [where Marc sees me playing] and I’m someone who likes to play offensively,” Rolfo said.
“We had discussions that he could fit me to be higher up as a winger, and I feel like here you use the wingers a lot, with crosses and coming around on the sides. So, it feels like a position that fits me, and I can help the team with my skills.
“You see my speed, my one against one and crosses, [I want to] help the team doing those things.”

Her official competitive debut could come in her home country of Sweden seven days later, when the Reds face PSV Eindhoven in the first of two season-opening Champions League clashes taking place in the nation’s capital of Stockholm.
“It would be very cool,” Rolfo replied, when asked how it would feel to make her United bow on home soil in Sweden.
“When I saw it, I was a bit surprised. Like: ‘Okay, that will be a trip to Sweden right away!’ It’s special, going there and playing against teams in Sweden.
“I’m super excited to start the Champions League journey and I feel like we’re going to be successful there, give it our all and hopefully we can reach the next stage.
“That’s the first step. So, we’re going to do everything to get there.”
