Two rising stars of the Academy, George Tanner and Max Dunne, have signed their first professional contracts as Manchester United players.

Tanner, an 18-year-old from Blackpool, is a talented wide player who was effective as a winger before he was converted to a full-back by the club’s coaches at the Aon Training Complex.

An England Under-17 and Under-18 international, he has gained experience in the UEFA Youth League this season, helping Nicky Butt's side reach next month's play-off with Serbian side Brodarac.

Tanner has registered 27 appearances for the youth team in 2016/17 and has been praised by Academy coach Kieran McKenna for his versatility and character.

Dunne, another 18-year-old local lad, has become the latest Academy youngster to join the professional ranks at the club, following the recent announcements of deals for Angel Gomes, Aidan Barlow, Aliou Traore, Arnau Puigmal and, of course, the aforementioned Tanner.

The centre-back played in the recent 4-2 win at Stoke City and will look to push on under coach McKenna, who recently described him as a “tough, aggressive defender who is good in the air”.

Dunne could feature when the Under-18s are next in action, against Derby County on Saturday afternoon. That match will be broadcast live on MUTV and kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 GMT.
