Guide: United's 2023 pre-season schedule

Wednesday 21 June 2023 07:00

Remarkably, we are only three weeks away from being able to see Manchester United in action again, in preparation for the 2023/24 campaign.

The Reds have released details of our schedule, following the players' return to Carrington for pre-season training next month.

After games in Oslo and Edinburgh, we fly to the United States for Tour 2023, with four matches being staged in four separate locations.

There is also a friendly in Dublin, eight days before we kick off in the Premier League, against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.

Fixture news: United set to play Leeds in Oslo

The Reds will face our historic rivals at Ullevaal Stadium this summer.

12 July: United v Leeds United (Oslo, 17:00 local time / 16:00 BST)

The two rivals from across the Pennines meet at the Ullevaal Stadium, in the first-ever clash between the clubs to be held in Norway. Leeds will compete in the Championship next term, following their top-flight relegation, and it should be an interesting contest as the build-up to next term begins in earnest.

Last season, we won 2-0 at Elland Road, a few days after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Old Trafford.

19 July: United v Lyon (Edinburgh, 14:00 BST)

It's an afternoon kick-off in Scotland for the Reds, as we take on Lyon, who are managed by our former defender Laurent Blanc. The French side finished seventh last term and have some familiar names in their ranks, including Argentina international Nicolas Tagliafico, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

Shortly after the fixture at BT Murrayfield – more traditionally the home of rugby – the squad will jet out to America.

22 July: United v Arsenal (New Jersey, 17:00 local time / 22:00 BST)

The Gunners were one of only two clubs to finish above the Reds last term and this MetLife Stadium encounter could prove a spicy one. We ended the north Londoners' early-season unbeaten run with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford, but conceded a late goal to lose 3-2 in the reverse fixture in the capital.

There have been some memorable contests with Arsenal in previous friendlies and, in this first meeting on American soil, Mikel Arteta's men will be out to prove they can compete at the top again in 2023/24.

Before our San Diego friendly, watch Sir Alex's viral meeting with Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney...

25 July: United v Wrexham (San Diego, 19:30 local time / 03:30 BST)

This Snapdragon Stadium encounter pits the National League champions against a young Reds side, with a bit of Hollywood glamour thrown in due to the Welsh club's co-owners, movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Academy prospects are set to represent United in the game against the newly promoted Welsh club, which should provide some valuable experience.

26 July: United v Real Madrid (Houston, 19:30 local time / 01:30 BST)

A day later, Ten Hag's team tackle Spanish giants Real at the NRG Stadium in a Texan tussle. This should be a memorable occasion between two of the biggest clubs in the world game, in front of a passionate crowd. Our last meeting in the US, back in 2014, was played in Michigan before a record 109,318 supporters.

The Bernabeu outfit may have lost star striker Karim Benzema but they have already drafted in Spain international Joselu and England's Jude Bellingham.

United set to face Dortmund in Las Vegas

 Article

For one night only on Tour 2023, the Reds will perform in the entertainment capital of the world.

30 July: United v Borussia Dortmund (Las Vegas, 18:00 local time / 02:00 BST)

For one night only, the Reds are in Vegas and taking on the German side at the Allegiant Stadium. Dortmund agonisingly missed out on the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich on the final day last term, and will be looking to replace Bellingham with more fresh talent.

Tickets are now on general sale for the match, the final one of our stay Stateside, and it's a unique chance to watch the Reds in Nevada.

5 August: United v Lens (Old Trafford, 12:45 BST)

The only match on home turf before we get under way for the Premier League campaign with the visit of Wolves. This clash with a side that finished second in France's Ligue 1 last term should provide a good test as Ten Hag is likely to rotate his squad for the weekend's matches, as he did last year. It will be a first chance to see Mason Mount as a Red at the Theatre of Dreams.

Tickets are available to buy and the action is also live on MUTV, as is the case for all the pre-season fixtures.

6 August: United v Athletic Club (Dublin, 16:00 BST)

Our final warm-up friendly is a reunion with Athletic Club, who beat us over two legs in the Europa League during Marcelo Bielsa's reign, back in 2012.

It's a third visit for United to the Aviva Stadium, and this is a great opportunity for our many Irish Reds to cheer us on, with ex-midfielder Ander Herrera among the Bilbao side's ranks.
