Our possible Europa League Round of 32 opponents
Manchester United are among the clubs who have already qualified for the Europa League Round of 32, but do you know who the Reds can be drawn against during Monday's ceremony in Nyon, Switzerland?
Our visitors from the Netherlands can also win the group with a victory at Old Trafford, which would leave us with a tougher outcome in the Round of 32.
Let’s take a look at the different permutations…
IF WE WIN THE GROUP
Ahead of this evening's fixtures, the other second-placed teams in this season’s Europa League groups are currently CFR Cluj, Eintracht Frankfurt, Krasnodar, LASK, Ludogorets, Malmo, Porto, Roma and Wolfsburg.
They are joined on our list of possible opponents by Club Brugge, Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiacos and Shakhtar Donetsk. Those four are the lowest-ranked clubs from the eight who are entering the competition following elimination from the Champions League, having finished third in their respective groups.
It is worth noting that United cannot be drawn against AZ Alkmaar due to being in the same pool, or against a team from the same country - which means we can’t meet Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are currently second in Group K.
At present, the full list of possible opponents looks like this:
Bayer Leverkusen, CFR Cluj, Club Brugge, Eintracht Frankfurt, Krasnodar, LASK, Ludogorets, Malmo, Olympiacos, Porto, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk and Wolfsburg.
IF WE FINISH SECOND IN THE GROUP
Should United lose to AZ Alkmaar at Old Trafford tonight, then the Dutch side would progress as group winners and we would therefore go through as an unseeded club.
That outcome would pair us against one of the 11 group winners – listed above, according to current standings - or the four highest-ranked teams who have dropped down from the Champions League. That includes Ajax, Internazionale, Benfica and Red Bull Salzburg.
Again, United can't face another English team so Arsenal are not among the possible opponents.
At present, the full list of possible opponents looks like this:
Ajax, APOEL, Basel, Benfica, Borussia Monchengladbach, Braga, Celtic, Copenhagen, Espanyol, Gent, Internazionale, Rangers, Red Bull Salzburg, Sevilla and Sporting.
