Which Reds are in the Euro 2024 semi-finals?

Sunday 07 July 2024 11:11

Manchester United will be represented by two players in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

England squeezed past Switzerland on penalties in Saturday's dramatic quarter-final, meaning Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw and Tom Heaton are the remaining Reds in the competition.

They face a battle against the Netherlands on Wednesday, in what is the second of the semi-finals in Germany.

It's set to be a crucial week for all four remaining nations at Euro 2024, and no doubt there will be further fireworks before the tournament concludes in Berlin on Sunday 14 July.

Euro 2024: England through, Turkey out

It was a mixed Saturday for the remaining Reds at the European Championship.

SPAIN V FRANCE (Tuesday 9 July, 20:00 BST)

A last-gasp Mikel Merino header in extra-time saw Spain eliminate Euro 2024 hosts Germany from the competition on Friday, with Luis de la Fuente's team becoming the first of the sides to reach the semi-finals.

France followed later that evening, knocking out 2016 European champions Portugal - whose squad featured United's Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot - on penalties.

The first of the semi-finals is set to take place at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena at 20:00 BST on Tuesday, and it will be shown live on BBC One in the UK.

ENGLAND V NETHERLANDS (Wednesday 10 July, 20:00 BST)

Penalties were also required for England to reach the last four in Germany, after Breel Embolo's opener for Switzerland was cancelled out by Arsenal's Bukayo Saka.

United defender Shaw made his return from injury in that match, while Mainoo started - and impressed once again - in the heart of the Three Lions midfield.

England scored all five penalties and Jordan Pickford saved from Manchester City's Manuel Akanji to see them into the final four.

The Netherlands then came from behind against Turkey to win 2-1, reaching the semi-finals of a European Championship for the first time since 2000. Reds goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was unfortunately eliminated in the process.

Former United forward Wout Weghorst helped turn the tide for his team off the bench, as Stephan De Vrijj and a Turkey own-goal ensured that they set up a mouth-watering clash with Gareth Southgate's side.

This semi-final, set to kick off at 20:00 BST, is set to be played at Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park and will be shown live on ITV 1 in the UK. We will also bring you updates via the Manchester United App and on ManUtd.com.

Good luck to our English trio.
