Loan news: Ogunneye joins Newport County
Young Manchester United defender Habeeb Ogunneye has joined League Two club Newport County on loan for the 2025/26 season.
The 19-year-old right-back has been a key player across Academy squads over recent seasons, representing the club in Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy, UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup.
Strong displays across those competitions — as well as with England’s youth sides — earned him a first senior call-up on 28 February 2024, when then-manager Erik ten Hag named him on the bench for the Emirates FA Cup fifth-round tie against Nottingham Forest.
Several more inclusions in matchday squads followed, although Ogunneye has yet to make his senior competitive bow for the Reds.
He did play in last summer’s pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Norway.
The London-born defender is reunited at Newport with Dave Hughes, who left his role as United’s Under-21s assistant manager at the end of last season.
Best of luck for the campaign, Habeeb!
