Maguire: I'm proud of where I'm at

Tuesday 14 January 2025 15:53

Harry Maguire has told Inside United magazine “I'm proud of where I'm at”, as he looks forward to a bright 2025 under Ruben Amorim.

The experienced centre-back has been widely praised for a series of committed, all-action performances in recent weeks, most notably against Manchester City, Liverpool and throughout Sunday's Emirates FA Cup win at Arsenal.

It’s fair to say the future looks bright for our towering no.5, whose dedication to the cause, professionalism and tactical versatility has underpinned an undoubted resurgence in his United career.

“Yeah, I feel in a real good place and have been now for 18 months, so I'm proud of where I'm at. I'm proud to play for this club.”

The club recently triggered a one-year extension in Maguire’s contract to keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2026, and a pleased Amorim has set him a series of challenges to improve.

After recently passing 600 appearances in senior football, for club and country, 31-year-old Harry admits he feels great as he heads into the new year – and is determined to achieve more success as a Red.

“Yeah, I'm really enjoying it,” says Harry in our latest club magazine. “Over 600 games, that's a lot, to be honest! I look after myself on and off the pitch. I try and do everything right.

“Obviously, I picked up a little injury this season, but I feel like I worked hard during my rehab and I came back in really, really fit and fresh and mentally and physically ready.

“Yeah, I feel in a real good place and have been now for 18 months, so I'm proud of where I'm at. I'm proud to play for this club.

“It's a huge honour, a huge responsibility, and I just want to now focus on the team and bringing back more happy memories for our fans.”

Maguire’s interview within Inside United reflects on the team’s 2024 and looks forward to what will hopefully be a brighter 2025 for all.

In a closing message to the fans, Harry states with absolute clarity – everybody is determined to reward our supporters.

“A big thank you for the amazing support throughout the year,” says Harry. “It's been a tough year. Us, as players, take responsibility on and it's not been good enough on our behalf.

Harry Maguire's reputation is now arguably higher than at any point since the summer of 2021, writes Joe Ganley.

“We have given them some happy memories - obviously the FA Cup final – but it's not been good enough. They'll stick with us. I don't need to tell them to stick with us, because they always do. They're the best fans in the world.

“Hopefully, we can make many more happy memories in 2025.”
