Maguire: I will be back on the pitch soon

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has provided a positive update on the calf injury he sustained against Aston Villa in September.

Maguire has been virtually ever-present since joining the Reds from Saturday's opponents Leicester City back in August 2019, but has recently been out of action.

Our towering centre-back picked up a calf problem against Villa at Old Trafford last month and therefore missed our encounters with Everton and Villarreal, in the Premier League and Champions League respectively.

As a result, Harry was not selected for international duty with England during the break.

Maguire has been working hard on his rehabilitation at Carrington and, on Tuesday, the inspiring club captain took time out to visit local school children with the Manchester United Foundation, alongside goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

While speaking to our reporter Mark Sullivan, in an interview you can see in United Daily from 18:00 BST, Maguire shared a positive update on his injury.

“Yeah it's getting there,” Harry said about his recovery from injury.

“I still haven't trained yet with the squad, but I am getting better, I am progressing as I should be. It is obviously a frustrating injury for me to get, but I am progressing and I will be back on the pitch soon.”

Maguire has impressively made 114 United appearances and only missed five out of 78 Premier League games since his club debut, our 4-0 win over Chelsea at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Now, according to the man himself, it looks like his 115th United match is not too far away.

In terms of other team news ahead of our meeting with the Foxes, the club confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday that one of Maguire's centre-back partners, Raphael Varane, will be out for a few weeks after sustaining a groin injury while on international duty with France.

On a more positive note, Phil Jones and Marcus Rashford have both been training with the first-team over the international break following their long-term injuries and the duo could feature against Leicester in our 15:00 BST kick-off at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
