Our beloved Old Trafford: Here We Belong

Friday 13 August 2021 19:18

You can relax now, Reds, because the long wait is almost over.

There are just hours to go until Manchester United’s 2021/22 Premier League season begins with a blockbuster match against Leeds, played in front of 75,000 expectant fans at Old Trafford.

Saturday’s will be the biggest crowd at our beloved Theatre of Dreams since March 2020 and, in this post-pandemic world, we’re buzzing with excitement to experience that matchday feeling again.

It is not hyperbole to state this is one of the most anticipated fixtures in years.

As we all know, Old Trafford is so much more than a football stadium. Whether you are from Manchester or Mumbai, Stretford or Seattle, Old Trafford is our home.

Here, we belong.

That is why the East Stand forecourt has been decorated with a new banner that was proudly installed this week, with our players standing beside that message.

United is a family club and everybody of a Red persuasion is welcome at Old Trafford.

As club reporter Joe Ganley wrote so eloquently in his preview: “It’s our ritual. Our release valve. Our second home. The place where we switch off, but where we’re never more alive. The place where we can forget ourselves and become part of something else, something bigger, something more universal.

“And if you can’t be there, fear not. You’ll see us and hear us, loud and clear on your television screens. And if we’re lucky enough to take the lead against Leeds at any point, you’ll hear a noise from M16 that you’ll probably never forget – even if you’re watching from Tucson or Tangier.”

The Theatre of Dreams: Here we belong.
United v Leeds kicks off at 12:30 BST and fans in the UK can watch it live on BT Sport. You can also follow updates via MUTV, ManUtd.com and our app.
